Many fires break out every day. Fortunately, most of the time, the consequences are minimal. However, the damage and consequences of these fires can be more important in case of fire on industrial structures.
Whether you work on industrial sites, in an establishment open to the public (ERP) or just employees, it is important to be trained in fire control.
The different classifications of fires
As a reminder, for a fire to form, three conditions must be met and come into contact: a fuel, an oxidizer and an energy source. Without one of these three conditions, a fire cannot be created and the risk of fire is therefore very limited.
To be able to fight effectively and limit damage, it is important to know the different classifications of fires. Each category of fire has a specific way of managing and controlling it. Today, there are three:
- Fired fires are controlled by protecting and cooling them. Then, it is a question of stopping the leak and attacking with foam if spread.
- Puddle fires, on the other hand, are given priority for foam attack after protection and cooling.
- Regarding fed puddle fires, the measures are the same as for fed fires.
What training to manage industrial fires?
To manage an industrial fire, knowledge is needed to adapt to different types of fires.
There are a few basic rules to know, including the fire triangle. This tool governs the extinguishing of fire according to the rule of removing at least one of the three elements that create fire:
- The removal of fuel, such as closing a valve
- Suppression of the oxidizer, i.e. the oxygen in the air by smothering
- The removal of activation energy, such as water.
However, this knowledge is not always enough. Practice and in-depth theory are necessary to react effectively.
This is why Gesip offers you a wide range of training courses on industrial fires to meet your needs.
Our training courses take place over several days of immersion on our technical sites equipped with full-size teaching units within industrial infrastructures. Our trainees leave our training courses confident and ready to intervene.
The training of a person requires regular exercises and simulations in order to maintain what he or she has learned, since trained employees are not confronted with a fire every day. However, at Gesip, we are aware of the difficulty of applying this advice once back in the daily work environment. This is why Gesip recommends training several times during a career to maintain and consolidate its knowledge.
Gesip also offers you the possibility to create your own customized training. You can also use ouraudit and advice to test your fire defense systems.
