Since 1953, Gesip has been reinforcing the safety of people and installations by transmitting knowledge through training and expertise. Its vocation is to contribute to improving safety performance and to promote a strong HSE culture.
In this respect, Gesip offers a training course in crisis management on flammable liquids and anti-pollution sites (APCEX LIF ANTI-POL) to train the actors in the Operator Command Post and prepare them to act effectively in case of pollution.
Who is the APCEX Lif Anti-Pol training for and how does it work?
Even if pollution is less and less important, societal sensitivity pushes expectations towards zero defects, the total absence of pollution traces. This training is part of this approach.
This training is intended for anyone who has a function within the PCEx and who wishes to reinforce his or her knowledge in the field of crisis management with a focus on pollution control management.
This course is based on a two-day session at the client's site. It includes a few reminders about the regulations, the organization of the PCEx as well as the PCEx tools. It also develops the knowledge of the personnel about the general principles of intervention in case of pollution forecast. Above all, the added value of this training is based on two role-playing exercises, the aim of which is to place the players in real-life conditions.
What is the objective of this pollution crisis management training?
In addition to the training of the teams constituted to respond to the emergency in an anti-pollution perspective, this course aims to prepare the trainees to communication (media, administrations, SDIS) and to the anticipation of the various aspects of the pollution.
It does not deal with clean-up worksites. It focuses on the previous stage of crisis management, in order to eliminate or at least limit it, and to anticipate specific needs later on.
How is the APCEX Lif Anti-Pol course an asset?
This training course, like all those of Gesip which enter the framework of the response to the emergency, is based on the setting in situation. Of course, theoretical reminders are necessary, but the exercise prevails and puts the trainees directly in their work environment, in a situation they had not imagined.
The occurrence of an event always takes teams by surprise. At first, there is denial and incomprehension... However, there is no room for chance in risk management. It is therefore necessary to train the teams in exercises with complementary issues to the basic theme, as is the case with flammable liquids (LIF).
While flammable liquids can cause fires and explosions, it is also necessary to consider their potential for long-term pollution due to micro-leaks or accidental events. If this aspect is not taken care of early on, the consequences will take on a different scale.
