The use of natural gas (NGV) vehicles can present risks for loading and unloading facilities. To reduce these risks, it is recommended to implement a number of organizational, technical and human measures.
These measures include:
- The approval of the vehicle by the DREAL :
- Identification of the trucks by stickers,
- The training of the personnel assigned to these installations to the specific risks related to natural gas,
- Updating emergency plans to reflect response distances in the event of a fire near a CNG truck
- The definition of organizational, technical and behavioral measures to limit the risk of collision.
- For LNG vehicles it is also recommended to check the pressure gauge value, to visually inspect the tank and the 24 bar valve, and to define, if necessary, parking areas according to the risks related to gas release.
- For CNG vehicles, it is necessary to verify the presence of two safety devices on the cylinders.
The Gesip technical guide GT001 "Access of ADR vehicles with LNG/CNG engines to loading/unloading stations for dangerous goods" presents in more detail the recommendations allowing the sites concerned to define the conditions of access to their installations for ADR vehicles fuelled with CNG.
This guide also proposes an example of an action plan applicable to industrial sites today.
