Gesip Certified Emulsifiers

The NF EN 1568-1 to 4 standards specify the minimum requirements for foam concentrates and define the tests used to determine their fire-extinguishing performance class (I, II, or III) and their resistance to reignition (A, B, C, or D).

In France, for certain foam concentrates that have proven to be particularly effective, Section B of Annexes 5 and 6 of the amended Ministerial Order of October 3, 2010, allows the flat application rates specified in Section A of Annexes 5 and 6 to be replaced with calculated application rates for retention fires.

Only Gesip conducts the tests used to certify high-performance foam concentrates. These tests are conducted using real fires (hydrocarbons or alcohol), in accordance with the protocol described in Guide 2012/02, which is recognized by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

Why choose a GESIP-certified foam concentrator?

Gesip’s high-performance, certified foam stabilizers enable manufacturers to:

  • Ensure the effectiveness of their firefighting capabilities
  • Optimize the quantities of foam concentrate in stock and the sizing of the fire suppression system

Usage
  • HC: stands for hydrocarbons containing less than 15% oxygenated compounds
  • HC 2.0: foam concentrates approved for use on hydrocarbon fires at an experimental application rate of 2.0 L/min/m²
  • HC 2.5: foam concentrates approved for use on hydrocarbon fires at an experimental application rate of 2.5 L/min/m²
  • Alcohol: foam suppressants approved for use on alcohol fires (alcohol = methanol and other aliphatic alcohols)
Concentration

Concentration of the foam concentrate in the foaming solution (1, 3, 5, or 6%)

Qualification

Any batch of foam concentrate manufactured during the qualification period is deemed to be of exceptional quality.

Status

"Expired" means that the qualification end date has passed as of the day the site is viewed.

Start

A firefighter is certified on the day they pass the certification tests at the Vernon training center.

End

A foam concentrator is certified for an initial period of 5 years.

Extension

If the supplier certifies that no changes have been made to the foam concentrate’s composition, its qualification is extended for 5 years. Gesip reserves the right to verify the foam concentrate’s composition throughout the qualification period.

Number

Since early 2024, Gesip has been issuing a unique qualification number for foam concentrates. A foam concentrate qualified for both hydrocarbons and alcohol has two separate qualification numbers.

NIAGARA C6 3/3

AR: indicates that the foam concentrate is alcohol-resistant—meaning it can be used on hydrocarbon fires and alcohol fires.

An AR foam concentrator can be described as:

  • only on HC,
  • or just on alcohol,
  • or on HC and alcohol: in this case, it appears twice in the list and has two qualification numbers.
