Since 1953, Gesip has been enhancing the safety of people and facilities by sharing knowledge through training and expertise. Its mission is to help improve safety performance and promote a strong HSE culture.
To this end, Gesip offers an on-site training course in crisis management for flammable liquids and pollution response (APCEX LIF ANTI-POL) to train personnel for the role of Operations Commander and prepare them to respond effectively in the event of a pollution incident.
Who is the APCEX Lif Anti-Pol training course intended for, and how is it conducted?
Even though pollution levels are steadily declining, growing public awareness is driving expectations toward zero defects—the complete absence of any traces of pollution. This training program is part of that effort.
This training is intended for anyone who holds a position within the PCEx and wishes to enhance their knowledge of crisis management, with a focus on pollution control.
This training course consists of a two-day in-person session held at the client’s site. It includes a review of regulations, the organization of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and EOC tools. It also builds staff knowledge of the general principles for responding to anticipated pollution incidents. Above all, the added value of this training lies in two simulation exercises designed to place participants in real-world scenarios.
What is the purpose of this training course on pollution crisis management?
In addition to training established teams to respond to emergencies with a focus on pollution control, this course aims to prepare participants for communication (with the media, government agencies, and fire and rescue services) and for anticipating various aspects of pollution.
It does not address cleanup operations. Instead, it focuses on the earlier stage of crisis management, with the aim of eliminating the crisis—or at the very least, mitigating it—and anticipating specific future needs.
What makes the APCEX Lif Anti-Pol training course a valuable asset?
Like all Gesip training courses designed to address emergency situations, this one is based on practical scenarios. While theoretical review is certainly necessary, the focus is on hands-on exercises that place trainees directly in their work environment, facing situations they had not anticipated but must learn to manage.
When an incident occurs, it always catches teams off guard. At first, there is denial and confusion… Yet chance has no place in risk management. It is therefore essential to train teams through drills that address issues related to the core topic, such as flammable liquids (FL).
While flammable liquids can cause fires and explosions, it is also important to consider their long-term pollution potential due to micro-leaks or accidental incidents. If this issue is not addressed early on, the consequences will take on a whole new scale.
